Be the Butterfly

Be the Butterfly

Before Christ we were destined to die once and only live once. A promise made by God to life, the curtain of eternal death, and restore the gates of Heaven and allow all the possibility to enter was bestowed. Eating of the fruit from the tree of knowledge was the turning point for humanity. Genesis 3:6 “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.” We fell from grace that day, to live a life as a worthless doomed worm upon the ground. A promise however in a prophecy stated that one day the savior would come, and would save us from our sins. Isaiah 53:5-12 But he was pierced for our transgressions he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” While there were foretelling of the details, the importance is all were fulfilled.

Do you wish to remain a lowly caterpillar or do you wish to ascend to be a beautiful butterfly? 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” When you follow Christ you undergo a fundamental change. You can never be the same again. The light inside snuffs out the darkness and forever will you know you cannot in good faith or good conscious remain a habitual sinner. Romans 12:2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

That coming to Christ moment in your life is like being awakened from a long cocoon. When you emerge you will be forever changed. The truth is we undergo two changes. The first is our heart. Second is upon our death. John 3:3 “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” When you arrive to heaven the body will be remade into perfection. Ephesians 2:5-6 “even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” We are destined to have a room in heaven. John 14:3 “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

Revelations 21:1-4 “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place[a] of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people,[b] and God himself will be with them as their God.[c] He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” When the day comes we will be transformed like the butterfly. Follow Christ and allow Gods light to transform you. The realm of Heaven is perfect, and so shall we. The only one to stop our transformation is you and me. Allow yourself to undergo the revolution and be one with the Heavenly Father.

Akula, kotorya Ne plavayet, Ne tonet. “The shark that does not swim, drowns.”

Akula, kotorya Ne plavayet, Ne tonet. “The shark that does not swim, drowns.”

In our walk with Christ it’s important that we never stop moving. The call of the Great Commission was one that would continue till the day we are called home. Philippians 3:12-14“12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but [this] one thing [I do], forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” In life it’s hard to not live in the past. It’s hard to have faith and live in the present. We must always continue to move forward but remember to do so in accordance with God’s plan for you. If your plans are just and faithful then perhaps God will allow for your plans to come to pass.

Joshua 1:7Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success[a] wherever you go.” Some kinds of sharks will drown if they do not continue to move. As such we too must continue moving. Isaiah 43:18-19“18 Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. 19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” We must learn from the past, but do not stay in the past. We must not allow ourselves to be consumed by grief, by despair, by fear, or by hatred. We must not allow ourselves to relive our past over and over again.

Galatians 2:20-21 “20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!” Our savior died for us, to wipe away the sins of old to free us to move forward in the new light.

As we move forward to Easter Sunday remember what the past is. The past was sin and death. Christ took that from us, he set our new path. Don’t loose sight of the meaning behind Easter. Don’t loose sight of our journey forward. Follow Christ and never turn around.

When you can’t see the Forest through the Trees

When you can’t see the Forest through the Trees

What does it mean ‘can’t see the forest through the trees?’ It means that sometimes you’re so caught up, so close to a situation you are incapable of seeing the big picture. When we are in the middle of our own life’s situations, when we are in the battles deep in the trenches, often times all we can see is the step right in front of us. So if that’s the case, how do we learn to take a step back and see the big picture? How do we wrestle with our own desire to remain in control? What are the simple rules of survival when lost in the woods? Today we’ll explore that together.

1 Corinthians 13:12 “12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.” We grow and as we grow we change. The forest grows with no help from us. It doesn’t worry about the trees next to it or the birds that use it to perch their nests, no it simply exists. When we look at our lives as a whole we often are consumed with the ‘Fog of War’, unable to see the big picture due to the biased nature of our lives. We must learn to take a step back, climb the tree to see over the tree tops, find anyway we can to understand that in order to make a Godly decision we must first look at any situation that we may face, and try to look objectively, look reasonably, and try to understand the path God wants for us. Proverbs 16:9 “A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.” When we listen to Gods will our path will be a blessed one. It won’t be without hardships, but we need to be tested, our faith must be made strong. Ecclesiastes 3:6 “A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;” No matter what season we find ourselves we must understand that worrying about what we don’t have control over will never help us figure out our path.

When lost in the woods the first thing most people do is panic. When we panic we expel more energy then if we remain calm and work it out rationally. When lost you must find shelter, find water, and find food. It’s never easy to accept we may be lost. When that moment hits you and you can’t breath, you can’t think straight, you can’t see your own thoughts clearly, that’s when we know we are in the middle of the woods. We can’t panic when the forest gets thick. We must learn to have faith in God. Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” We have to keep the faith. When we are lost, God will show us the way. Psalm 25:16-17 Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish.” Have faith in the Lord to guide you. When lost in the woods and you cannot see your way out, and allow God to help you see your path. Keep the faith and keep your compass.

It’s not for our own understanding as to why our suffering occurs but when it does don’t loose yourself to the anguish. You are not in control and that’s an important fact to realize. We are in control of our own actions and how we handle our choices. Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” God will, will be done. One way or another, we will deal with our situations. Stop and pray that God will help get out of the wilderness. Isaiah 40:3-5A voice is calling, “Clear the way for the LORD in the wilderness; Make smooth in the desert a highway for our God. “Let every valley be lifted up, And every mountain and hill be made low; And let the rough ground become a plain, And the rugged terrain a broad valley; Then the glory of the LORD will be revealed, And all flesh will see it together; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

Survival is about preparing; it’s about planning for the worst and knowing how to do that. God has given us the compass to see our way out of the woods and back to open prairies. Don’t let yourself get caught in the forest without the map. Shoot your azimuth and follow your direction north.

When the Waves Crash

When the Waves Crash

When you stand where the waves crash in the ocean you can and will be beat crash after crash. Life is kind of the same way. When you know the wave is coming you can brace for it, prepare for it, and figure out how to manage the size, intensity, and know that really, the wave is in control, not you. What then happens when you have your back to the waves? If you aren’t prepared to weather the impact, you can and most likely will get knocked down and swept under the waves. As the world treats us, we often feel beaten down by the waves, we often feel as if we’ve been swept unto the undertow and swallowed by the vast ocean.

Matthew 8:23-27 And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?” The Lord is truly in charge of our lives. Where does our faith put us? When the waves crash against us, how then do we turn to God when the storms and the waves seem so big against us? David writes Psalm 107:29 He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed.” God has the power to overcome any storm.

The world can be a cruel place. People’s choices can make life hard, and sadly it’s those who are closest to us that can cause the most pain. The cuts loved ones can make, the betrayals of friends, being sold out, backs being turned, jobs being lost. Luke 8:23 And as they sailed he fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water and were in danger.” We fear tomorrow, we fear change, and that fear is because we don’t feel in control of our fate. It’s at these times it’s more important to have faith. Psalm 27:1 1 The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?” Having faith is sometimes the hardest thing we will ever do. Having faith that to stand for God and not the world is the right course. The world we can touch, we can have tangible connections, but truly what is it that we seek? If we are to truly walk with God, some days we can feel HIS presence more then others, but we know He is always with us. Isaiah 41:13For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” When tomorrow comes and you can see the storm brewing on the horizon you know how to stand firm.

Ephesians 6:15 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.” When Paul the Apostil of Christ Jesus wrote this letter to Ephesis, he used the parable of the Roman soldier to explain how the Armor of God should be in place. For the example of this Blog we’ll focus on the shoes. The bottom of the roman shoes, consider being more like cleats. This was to allow the soldier to dig in and stand their ground, never to be pushed back. We are called to be faithful in a world that is designed to so draw us away from the glory of God.

God knows our fate, God knows our heart, and God knows every possible direction we can go. God however is not the only General on the field of battle. The Devil is pulling us in different directions away from Christ. The Devil knows our desires. Make no mistake, free will is always there, it’s always present. When the wave crashes down upon us, know that the storms will come and go just as they always have. How we choose to brace for that impact is a CHOICE we make. Our choice to turn our side to the wave, dive into it, jump over it, however we choose is still our God given right to choose. Be faithful in the teachings of Christ. Be loyal to the words, and ask for forgiveness of your own sins, ask for forgiveness of those who hurt you, sin against you, beat you, know that God too suffered for us. We all have our scars, and those scars will forever remind us of where we have been. As the spear pierced the flesh of Christ, the nails held his arms, remember his arms were held wide. His arms would always remain wide for us. He will always welcome us home with a hug. Remember that through the entire crucifixion Christ never had a bone broken in his body. He was beaten, cut, battered, but never broken. Never let the Devil break you. Never let the Devil win. The waves may crash and thunder down upon you, but if you stand ready, the waves don’t have to knock you down, but if you do, be sure to swim to the top, and never stop kicking till you reach the surface. Stand back up and brace for the next wave. Deuteronomy 28:7 “The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.” The enemies will attack you, and you will be the target of hate, and persecution. Jeremiah 1:19 “And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee.”

Fight back, stand firm, and hold your ground. Don’t let the waves defeat you. One day the waves will subside and the waters will calm. Pray for those days, pray for the storm to be calm, and know that in our Faith God, all things are possible. Never give up.

Be God’s Lego’s

Be God’s Lego’s

When you get a set of Lego’s it comes with an instruction manual or sometimes more then one. As one piece after another is put together you finally start to see the creation of your works. As such as it’s stated in the Bible that we are to be molded like clay in Gods image, I turn clay into Lego’s. We have the instructions in front of us. The most printed book in all time the Bible is now the easiest to access it ever has been, from computer, to digital, to the multiple translations of it. If we are to be Gods instruments, allow God to build us. Jeremiah 18:5-6 “Then the word of the Lord came to me: 6 “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter has done? declares the Lord. Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.” If God wishes to build us, we must not let the Evil one stand in our way. Much like Lego we can be built into skyscrapers that tower over all the land, we can be super hero’s, or just simple city workers. Whatever your imagination, it’s not nearly what God’s is. Whatever you think you should be, whatever job you believe you should have, you should allow the builder of all to build you.

Philippians 2:13 “for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” As for me, I enjoy a great deal to build up Lego sets. It gives me great peace to see my works turn into something wonderful. How then does God feel when we too are used to spread his good works throughout the land? What is our life to God? Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Be the good God wants you to be.

Look at the instructions and allow God to use you for great things. Be the Lego’s for God. Be a hero, a minister, a builder, a fisherman, or even a fisher of man, but be whatever God wants for you. Do not fear the future of what you could be built into. God’s got the instructions, and they are perfect.

The Cold Creeps In

The Cold Creeps In

The Devil creeps and schemes. The Devil shall come in many forms, to task you, to haunt you. The minions of the Devil, the demons from beyond whisper, taunt, tease and take over the hearts of people who once were good. The season of winter how harsh it can be.

A Russian Proverb.

Готовь сани летом, а телегу зимой. While it is fine weather mend your sails.

When the waters around you freeze, the winds blow the ice around and create a frozen waist land, do not let your heart turn into a frozen decollate place. Job 37:6-10 “For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.7 He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work. 8 Then the beasts go into dens, and remain in their places.9 Out of the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the north.10 By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened.” Don’t let your heart be covered in ice. Don’t let your heart be hardened by sorrow, don’t let your pain bury you in snow. Vengeance can bury you in the mountains of snow. Song of Solomon 2:11-12 11 for behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. 12 The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing[a] has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.”

The blossoms may rise by spring, but remember the blossoms may only sprout after winter. The winter must come to offer rebirth. Sometimes you must allow it to be torn down to the bedrock to rebuild. The undertaking of a task of the Devil to show you as a person you are vulnerable. The hero to protect you in the winter is Jesus. Darkness cannot exist while there is light. The snow cannot remain when the sun warms the air. Only those who grieve will remain in permanent winter. Let the Sun of God warm your heart and melt the snow. Let the Sun of God protect you from the harsh winds and ice. Only love can save the frozen heart. The love of God.

2 Timothy 1:7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” God is in control, never fear and never doubt.

When there is peace, rest, relax, praise God, but always prepare for war. When your heart is weary from battle, take heed that God will be your respite.

You can’t handle the truth

The sad thing about the truth is sometimes, it hurts. When we do things that we know are wrong it’s easy to pass the buck. Hide the truth, water it down, or even victimize yourself to hid from the truth that you are the bully and your victims are the ones that suffer. When do we finally pull that trigger? When the lie is easier to swallow is when we side with the wrong side. The thing about lies is, they are cancer. The cancer spreads and infects every aspect of life. They pile up as you have to continue to keep track of what you said, who you said it to. Proverbs 6:16-19 “There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.”

You can chain someone, you can break their bones, you can try to take everything from someone, but you cannot take their spirit. You cannot take their faith. You cannot take from me what isn’t yours to take. Matthew 5:11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”  Don’t let this world be your chains. Don’t let this world keep you in captivity. Jesus’s blood set you free, broke the chains of bondage so we could live.

Be comforted knowing that some peoples inability to have faith, their lack of trust in the Lord is a sad state. Remember the old adage, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.” One thing is for certain, as my heritage is one of eternal salvation with the Father, know this… I will not be bought, I will not be broken, I will not be tempted by Satan. I may be human, but with every imperfect ounce of my blood I will fight back. I will not allow the Devil to control my actions even if those around me are on the attack. 1 Peter 5:8-14 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

The Truth is people fear God. They fear what they don’t understand. People fear they are not in control of their own lives. People fear that they are just puppets in this celestial or cosmic battle being waged in the shadows beyond what we can see. People see the need to lie, and cheat for their own personal gratification. I’m not perfect, I have human desires, I have human sin. We all sin, but before the end, I will be judged for the TRUTH that was my life. I will have to answer for every ill thought, every poor action, every word uttered out of my mouth. How will you be judged when the truth comes out at your trial before the Almighty God?

Liberation

Liberation

We are born into a life on bondage. This life is a temporary prison filled with sin, pain, heartbreak, love, happiness, and when our bodies break and wither back to the ash from whence it came, we know that we are not tied town in bondage any longer. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ washed away our sins, and cleaned the slate for us to have a new kind of relationship with the King of all Kings. Galatians 5:1 “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” Christ’s Blood was powerful and broke all the chains of bondage that held us to this earthly world.

Sin isn’t the only bondage we may find ourselves in. There are things in this worldly life that can take hold of us. Addictions to all kinds of things, substance abuse, and even bad relationships can hold us captive. Lamentations 3:7 “He hath hedged me about, that I cannot get out: he hath made my chain heavy.” I firmly believe that if we find ourselves in these kinds of environments it’s the Devil working against us.

For I am liberated by truth. I am set free from the bondage you held me in. A life free of a mistake. For what seemed like a loss is now a blessing. An understanding of a true nature hidden for so long. A leopard cannot be free from its spots nor a zebra from its stripes. We are who we are, who we choose to be. A life I now choose freely, my own course, a course followed by the guiding life and love of Jesus Christ. I am set free of my chains, and now, I can finally say thank you. (With a hint of attitude as Spock would say, “Live Long And Prosper”)

As our forebear Moses took our brothers and sisters out of the bondage of Egypt. Christ freed us from the bondage of certain death. 2 Timothy 1:10but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,” We all sin in this life but we should hold no shame to that. Letting go of the sin, letting people see you and your faults, seeking forgiveness of your transgressions, and most importantly forgiving others who trespass against you. 2 Timothy 1:16The Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains;”

As we escape death because of the sacrifice by Christ 2 Timothy 1:10 “but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,” What does that mean? Believing and following in Christ is the way, the only way to break free of death. Is it just death or anything else? Don’t live your life held in chains. Don’t live your life in bad relationships, don’t live in hurtful positions, don’t let fear guide you, don’t let addictions define you, or heartbreak.

Breaking the chains of bondage take courage and faith. Acts 2:27 “BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT ABANDON MY SOUL TO HADES, NOR ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO UNDERGO DECAY.” Cut the bonds that hold you. Break them with the mighty sword and praise Jesus. Romans 6:9 “knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him.” You were blind once, but now you can see. The world looks a bit different after you wake up from the long dream. Jesus has a hand out and a room just for you. Don’t let your weight keep you held down. Shed those chains, and break free. You know the key, only you can unlock your own bondage. Jesus will never force you to follow, but is sad when you don’t. Live to live, don’t let death be your final death. Find the truth in the light of the Lord, and cut that rope.

The Arrow

The Arrow

Half of a whole weapon an archer uses. The projectile of a marksman, someone who knows the wild, knows the purity of the wilderness. Archery has grown into a commercialism sport, but the true nature, someone whose bow was an extension of him or her, a true skill that takes years to master. The arrow, a shafted projectile with a tip or a broad head, fletching or feathers, under many circumstances able to puncture leather armor or chainmail. Ancient Egyptians used bows, and even then the bow most likely predates 3500 BC. Archery is a skill of peace, peace with yourself. Being able to center yourself, control your breathing, your surroundings must be apart of you. You should be able to feel the air, feel the wind, feel the bowstring, feel the feather on the arrow, feel how tight the string is, and then release. Yes I discussed some of this in a recent blog. However, in this blog we’ll discuss the arrow itself.

A single arrow can be broken, but a bundle is stronger. An arrow fired can start a war, or end one. An arrow is only as good as the person shooting it. An arrow is sharp and when used properly it can be used to feed the masses, or for protection, but always to be fired straight and true. The word of the Lord can be used for both. Those who pervert the word who use it for their own personal gain. The wolves in sheep’s clothing, the false profits. The light and the dark.

Lets break down the whole concept, the archer is the master tool for the Lord. The bow is the Holy Spirit, that which gives us the power. The sights of the bow are the vision needed to walk the righteous path of Christ. The arrow is the purpose brought forth by God. An archer’s quiver represents the heart, a place where Gods purpose is kept. As an archer, we use the arrows to always hit our target. Pastors are often attuned to the needs of their flock. When sitting in the church during a sermon have you ever felt that a sermon was written just for you? That the pastor was talking directly to you? The Arrows of Truth that are shot directly to your heart.

God is not the only trainer of archers. Ephesians 6:16 “In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.” Make no mistake we are at war. Every day the Devil is trying to lie and deceive you. Every day the Devil shoots his arrows of half-truths, lies and temptations. Matthew 10:34 “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.” God sent his Son to level the playing field. To uphold a promise to have his chosen people saved from eternal death, but with free will, the battle for souls still continues. Those of us who choose a life of ministry, pastors, evangelists, counselors, etc, must know how to use the full arsenal given to us in the Bible. Matthew 12:36 “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” Stand firm with the Armor and hold fast with your bow. Every day you have a chance to fire the arrows into the hearts of those around you. Every day there is an arrow within your quiver that has a name on it, and it’s up to you as a Christian to use the weapons God as given to you. Speak the truth, do not lie or deceive. Honor yourself and fight for something larger then yourself. With all eternity at stake God will call you to be a soldier. I am an archer for Christ. Are you?

Breaking the Bow

Breaking the Bow

As a ships Captain the first duty is always to the ship. You must know how to manage the crew, know everything about your ship; know where you’re going, and how to get there. Now this next part will rattle some cages, so before you quickly judge, hear me out. Ephesians 5:22-24 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.” Men, this doesn’t give you free access to be hard headed, or stubborn, this doesn’t allow you to be controlling as a King would, but instead think of this as a ship. You men are the captains of your marriage. You should be leading with dignity, with grace, with kindness and compassion. You should be leading your marriage as a God fearing and loving home. Wives are the first mate, supportive, understanding, and strong in faith. No kingdom should be without a queen. As the saying goes behind every great leader is a great woman. Women play a vital role in the household. My personal belief is a woman can do anything a man can do.

So many males today have kids but refuse to be a father. So many boys today stay boys and never grow into men. It’s not enough to be an adult; you must act like a man. There are so many mothers out there raising children on their own. We men need to learn to act like men, and resume our place as leaders. Christ died for us, for all of our sins, and we men should be willing to die for Christ, for our families if need be. There should be a higher level of devotion from me.

Here however are the meat and potatoes of the post. Divorce. Husbands, especially ones who’ve served in the military should understand this. She’s (your wife) is your battle buddy. You don’t retreat. You lever quit, never surrender, never leave your buddy behind. We have to learn the language of love. Love isn’t a feeling. It’s a commitment. It’s doing it every day. Everyone goes through rough patches. You both need to learn how to bring each other up, not tear down. Often in a marriage especially one where infidelity has occurred it’s difficult to find any kind of peace. How do we move forward after an affair? 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rue. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes for all things, endures all things. Love never ends.” Now even though the bible allows divorce for one reason alone adultery, that doesn’t mean that’s the right course for everyone. As Christ so loved us he forgave us for the most horrible of crimes. We however must want and ask for forgiveness. Any marriage can be saved so long as the lines of communication remain open. As long as both parties are welcome to the idea of seeking wise counsel. Proverbs 12:15 “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.” Proverbs 19:20“Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.” Proverbs 1:5 “Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance,” We men can be stubborn; we can be bull headed, and ignorant. We have gotten into an attitude of not wanting to ask for help, not admitting we need it. How foolish can we be to think we can handle every situation, every problem? The truth is every problem and situation has a solution, and even world leaders have a slew of people within their counsel. Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” In all things God will be there for us. He will provide the answers if we just learn to ask the right questions. As Peter wrote his letter 1 Peter 3:8-12 was particularly important in how to live within a Godly Marriage. “Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. 10 For “Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; 11 let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it. 12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

Be your ships captain, be the masters of your ship, but bow down to the greatness of Gods creation. God’s master over all but expects us to command our homes. Don’t let your bow break on that ship of yours, navigate your waters, and avoid the storms when you can, but learn to prepare for them. Fight the storms, fight for your marriage, fight for what’s right and always remember God is your North Star. Place the compass North and set sail.
